When I was a teenager in AR (Arkansas, not Arizona), there was an insect that I found on several occasions, but searches to find out what I saw have yeilded no results. I would like some input into what I saw.

It was antlike in it's shape, and about the size of a carpenter ant. However, it didn't have any other "ant" characteristics like brown/black/red color. It was fuzzy like a bee, and had a bright orange and black striped thorax and abdomen. Any clue as to what this insect was/is?
Pics please, or links to pics would be greatly appreciated.

I worked in the zoo for two years and I have developed a friendship with one of the peacocks there. I can tell him apart from all of the others and there are more than twenty. He follows me, I feed him, he comes when I calll him, and lately he has been doing something strange.
When ever Im cleaning a animal paddock and he is nearby, and people are pestering him he lets out this loud squeel. Almost as if to say hey im in trouble come help me. When I come, he stops, and the people walk away. Therefore, the situation is resolved, I guess.
So Is this is way of telling me that he is in danger and I should come help?
I have heard so many diffrent sounds from him each as individual as the next, but this one was quite an alarming sound.
I just think its amazing.

I live in Central Brittany, and we've found several of these, alive, in tree roots we've been cutting up for burning. Do we squish them or are they gonna be rare butterflies? Or perhaps sauted with a few haricots?

You know when you're watching nature programmes and you see baby lion cubs that have their fur coat and they can walk and they normally fight with each other and stuff but they can't catch food for themselves.

How old would you say that would be, i was thinking either 3 years or 6 months but i don't know so help!

Are they biologically capable of complex thought and reasoning? Should we be trying to communicate with them or teach them sign language or something? If octopi were longer lived and social organisms, would they be building cities and discussing philosophy? Is it ethical for some people to eat octopus meat?
