There are a couple different reasons why bats roost this way. First of all, it puts them in an ideal position for takeoff. Unlike birds, bats can't launch themselves into the air from the ground. Their wings don't produce enough lift to take off from a dead stop, and their hind legs are so small and underdeveloped that they can't run to build up the necessary takeoff speed. Instead, they use their front claws to climb to a high spot, and then fall into flight. By sleeping upside down in a high location, they are all set to launch if they need to escape the roost.
Hanging upside down is also a great way to hide from danger.

Because they need to put their feet up.
Since bats are the only mammals who can fly, with wingspans ranging from 6" to 6', they failed to make great strides in the walking-about, or in the standing departments. Their legs and feet are simply not strong enough to support these functions for great lengths of time.
For this very reason, bats, when in their bat caves, or roosting in trees, take the weight off of their tired limbs by hanging upside down.

I think it's an adaptation thing. IF you're going to live in a cave the best air is at the top, not the bottom. Also thousands of bats at the bottom of anything is easy prey for an owl or other predator. They actually have to calculate an attack on the ceiling. Also if there is a need to move it takes less energy to just fall and go.

they're all copycats.. they ape their elders, mothers and dads and forefather.. besides, they have faith that the international is the different way up, and to make certain the international in quickly way, they carry the different way up. apart from, frequently, they stay jointly in thousands and thousands in a congested-slender place.. So, with the intention to maintain area and accommodate greater they carry this way.. one greater, it truly is greater handy and swifter to take the flying initiate in direction of the gravitation power than in different way, in case of unpredicted incidents.so as that they carry dealing with the earth (the different way up)
