I am looking for a book about general relativity in which the topic is discussed more intuitively than math..although I know math. but I prefer to catch the idea first then go to details.....any suggestion? thanks

You are traveling toward a mountain at 75 km/hr. You stop and look up to the top of a mountain. The angle of elevation from the ground to the top of the mountain is 0.026 radians. Twenty minutes later, the angle of elevation is 0.031 radians. About how tall is the mountain? Show all work! A picture may help.

For the past month or so I have been getting Static Electric Shocks noticeably more often than usual. Everything I touch, whether it be a car, a metal desk, a light switch. Has anyone else been getting static electric shocks more often lately? Is there a way to prevent build up of static electricity? is there some kind of explanation for this? Any comments would really be appreciated.

Gravitation is a phenomenon through which all objects attract each other. Issac Newton, myself and most of the scientific community agree that this is why things fall from the sky. If you have another theory that you think is better, please post it with your facts and observations. I am wondering what people are learning in science class.

The spring of a spring gun has force constant k = 400 N/m and negligible mass. The spring is compressed 6.00 cm and a ball with mass 0.0300 kg is placed in the horizontal barrel against the compressed spring. The spring is then released, and the ball is propelled out the barrel of the gun. The barrel is 6.00 cm long, so the ball leaves the barrel at the same point that it loses contact with the spring. The gun is held so the barrel is horizontal.

Calculate the speed with which the ball leaves the barrel if you can ignore friction.

Calculate the speed of the ball as it leaves the barrel if a constant resisting force of 6.00 N acts on the ball as it moves along the barrel.

For the situation in part (b), at what position along the barrel does the ball have the greatest speed? (In this case, the maximum speed does not occur at the end of the barrel.)

What is that greatest speed?

In raising a 4600 N piano with a pulley system, the workers note that for every 2 m of rope pulled down, the piano rises 0.2 m. Ideally, how much force is required to lift the piano?
460 N(got that)

(b) If the workers actually pull with 2500 N of force to lift the piano, what is the efficiency of the pulley system?

My Wife believes that my 5 yr old son has some sort of psychic abilities - to be able to hear things and see things that are not there, due to some of the things my son has said and done around our house.

I too have heard some of the things my son has said, but am not sure - because I do not trully believe in all this psyhic stuff, and want to find out more as in is this is real or just him being a child with an over active imagination?

My wife would like to get him tested to see if he does have this gift - and I would also, just to see if this is real or not.

Does anyone know of a Psychic that works with Children, someone who can either tell my wife yes he has a gift - and explain to me just what this gift is?

I heard of places that work with children - but am unsure who they are and how to contact them?

On a force diagram, why do kinetic friction and static friction point different ways?

Say you have a book sliding down an incline to the right. If it is not moving yet, then static friction is up the incline to the left.

Why, if it IS moving, is kinetic friction down the incline, to the right?

A plumb bob does not hang exactly along a line directed to the center of the Earth's rotation. How much does the plumb bob deviate from a radial line at 32.5° north latitude? Assume that the Earth is spherical.

answer is wanted in degrees

HAVE THIS MUCH SO FAR from someone who answered.

The acceleration from the earth's rotation at 32.5° lat is
a = Re*cos32.5°*ω² = 2.84E-5 m/s²
Combining that with g at Lat 32.5 gives a deviation of roughly 8.93E-5°. The deviation will be toward the equator.

Draw a diagram with 9.8 m/s² acting toward the center and the value of a above acting outward perpendicular to the axis of the earth. This will give you a triangle with 2 sides and one angle known.

The tilt of the earth's axis doesn't enter into the answer.....

still do not understand how the deviation he listed will help me in figuring out the last side of the triangle.
