Can anyone describe to me how to do projectile motion?

I have some problems that I need help with:

1. A fire hose ejects a stream of water at 35° above the horizontal. the water leaves the nozzle with a speed of 25 m/s. Assuming that the water behaves like a projectile, how far from the building should the fire hose be located to hit the highest possible fire?

2. A horizontal rifle is fired at a bullseye. The muzzle speed of the bullet is 670 m/s. The barrel is pointed at the center of the bull's-eye, but the bullet strikes the target .025 m below the center. What is the horizontal distance between the end of the rifle and the bull's-eye?

3. An Olympic long jumper leaves the ground at an angle of 23° and travels through the air for a horizontal distance of 8.7 m before landing. What is the takeoff speed of the jumper?

I would really appreciate your help I have a test on this tomorrow! :(

the initial velocity of a 4.0 kg box is 11m/sec due west. after the box slides 4.0m horizontally, its speed is 1.5 m/sec. determine the magnitude and the direction of the non-conservative force acting on the box as it slides.

I know that shorter wavelength = higher frequency. But when people just say oh, the shorter wavelength allows for the data pits/bumps to be packed in tighter. Why? If anything, I'd think amplitude would matter more. Or am I just visualizing a wave of light in the wrong way? Can someone clear this up for me?

Please keep in mind a distinction between the use of the term 'complexity' in ordinary conversation (William Falkner's novels are complex) verses complexity in the mathematical sense (the capacity to give rise to virtually unlimited and unpredictable higher-order patterns - often associated with chaos and self-organizing systems aka non-linear dynamic systems, etc.) I am wondering if an individual string in string theory can be considered complex in the mathematical sense, or would complexity arise only from the interactions of a bunch of strings? Logical argument for or against would be appreciated, as well as links/references to where I might find discussions of this topic.
