Question is only suitable for medical students and health science graduates.

I understand the mechanisms of how the glucose and sodium work, but not sure about the differences. They both use a type of active transport on one side of the epithelial cell (primary or secondary for sodium, only secondary for glucose) and they diffuse down a concentration gradient on the other side of the epithelial cell (ion channel for sodium, facilitated diffusion for glucose). These differences I just noted are basic and general differences between sodium and glucose transportation, and not specific for an epithelial cell. Has anyone got some differences that are substantial and solely defined to an epithelial cell?

my fiance has had his stool covered in blood since last year. He's been diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease, ulcerative colitis, and rectal ulcers. then yesterday he urinated a very dark brown substance. He had it checked, and it was blood. it only happened once. since then, his urine is competely clear. he gets a lot of nose bleeds as well.

im convinced that they are missing something. is there any one out there who could pls give me their opinion. we have to be proactive about finding out what's wrong. this is worrying me so badly. i just need some other options to look into, to help the doctors find out whats really wrong..

Am I right in thinking that Noradrenaline/Norepinephrine released in the synaptic cleft gets removed by been broken down to small inactive componets which then get abosorbed back into the pre-synaptic cleft to be resynthesised to Noradrenaline/Norepinephrine? If I am right, any further detail would be great. Thanks alot.

Okay in one of my classes we were talking about animal testing in cancer research. Well one girl was saying how horrible it was and talking out of her @ss (keep in mind I have had cancer) So my reply was, "Do you eat meat? Have you ever taken antibiotics? Have you ever had a vaccination for polio or anything else? etc. etc." All these things exist from animal research.

I LOVE animals but like seriously unless you don't associate with ANY of the things I mentioned plus many, many more I don't think they can say anything negative about research cause its ignorant and nauseatingly hypocritical. Anyone agree or disagree??

Once you develop a tolerance for one benzo, like say Xanax, do you automatically have a built in tolerance for the other benzos as well. In other words I would like to think that If I develop a tolerance for Xanax at sometime and it stops working for my anxiety, that I would be able to switch to another benzo which would work effectively for me at lower doses (like when I started the Xanax). Or, would I automatically need doses of the new benzo comparable to the doses of the Xanax. Being that all benzos are chemically similar yet not identicle, I would think because the chemical in the new benzo would be unfamiliar to my body, that the effects would stronger (relating to anti-anxiety) at lower doses rather than maximal. Is this correct? Thank you...

I know that there is anecdotal evidence that SJW can decrease the effectiveness of oral contraceptives, but is there any solid evidence or proof that it is actually the culprit in these incidences rather than there being another possible cause? If so, what is the chemical action that causes the interference? Also, is anyone aware of how greatly the oral contraceptive effect is decreased? Please HELP, because I want to try taking SJW as I can't afford anymore prescription antidepressants, but I can also not afford to get pregnant. Do I really need to worry or is the connection unproven? Thank you...

my friend was having cramps where she was in bed crying and a girl from the dorm next door tol dher to have acohol with her midol. (the midol wasn't working and the girl said it would intensify the drug). She only had alittle rum and coke with 2 Midol Menstural. Each Tablet contains 500mg of Acetaminophen. It says if you consume 3 or more acoholic drinks a day ask docter if you should take the pills.

she isn't in pain anymore but she said her whole body is numb and she is just sitting and staring at things with very delayed reactions. This has been going on about 3 hours now.

She is going to be ok right?

Should she drink water?
She said she dosn't want to feel drugged anymore?
