'Diazepam'. it is Valium. It is good for short term anxiety and back pain relief. Other than that, don't go there. It should not be prescribed for depression any more; there are better anti-depressives out there now

Diazapam is prescibed for many things, it has its uses for symtomatic relief of elements of depression and panick attacks but its not usually prescibed soley for depression due to its dependancy issues, it also has its uses for the control of seizures for epilepsy sufferers taken to stop the seizures. I do suggest if you have been prescribed it you talk to your GP as to its complete uses and why you have been prescribed it. If you Google Diazepam you will get lots of information of this drug.

Do you mean "Diazepam"?
Diazepam is used to relieve anxiety, muscle spasms, and seizures and to control agitation caused by alcohol withdrawal. (Medlinelus)
Diazepam (IPA: [daɪˈæzəˌpæm]), marketed under brand names Valium®, Stesolid, Diazemuls, Seduxen, Bosaurin, Diapam, Antenex and Apozepam) is a drug which is a benzodiazepine derivative. It possesses anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, sedative, skeletal muscle relaxant and amnestic properties. This makes it a useful drug for treating anxiety, insomnia, seizures, alcohol withdrawal, and muscle spasms. It is also used before certain medical procedures (such as endoscopies) to reduce tension and anxiety, and in some surgical procedures to induce amnesia.(Wikipedia)

As well as being used to treat depression, it is also used as a pre-med for patients before they have surgery to calm their nerves and make them less anxious.
