1. At 11 AM, a boat leaves St. Augustine for Miami, 400 miles away, traveling at 40 mph. One hour later, a boat leaves Miami for St. Augustine at 50 mph. At what time do both boats pass each other?


2. A bus leaves school traveling at an average rate of 40 mph. A second bus leaves the school 1/2 an hour later following the same route. The second bus travels at an average rate of 60 mph. How long will it take the second bus to catch up with the first

I'm taking Geometry, and I probably learned this in Algebra, but I forget how to solve a two-variable equation!
Such as:
5x-1=3y
or
2y+1=2x+3
Please explain, don't just do the problem, because I have many more problems to do on my own!

these were my problems that i finished

find three consecutive positive integers such that the square of the third is 51 more than the sum of the first and second

i got -X=25 but i dont see how thats right because X has to be positive but the number in this problem has to be positive too. if you do tell me the answer please show me the work and the check.

write an equation of the line whose slope is -2 and whose y intercept is -1

i got y= -2X+-1
