if we have the right side we can solve for x

you can't solve this unless there is something on the other side of the equals sign

what you're trying to solve for is "x", not "?"

so, if "?" = 0, then
2x + 3(46) = 0
2x = -138
x = -69
procedure is the same for whichever number "?" is -- hope this helps
