A blimp, suspended in the air at a height of 500 feet, lies directly over the line from Soldier Field to the Adler Planetarium on Lake Michigan. If the angle of depression from the blimp to the stadium is 32 degrees and from the blimp to the planetarium is 23 degrees, find the distance BETWEEN Soldier Field and the Adler Planetarium.

Joe will roll a pair of dice until he rolls a 7 (sum of 2 numbers). Let X be number of times he will roll without getting a 7.
(For example, if on the third roll Joe first rolls 7, then X=2.)
What is the expected value of X?

[hints:
let p(x) denote probability that X=x.
The expected value will be an infinite series, (0)p(0) + (1)p(1) + (2)p(2) + ... .
After the formula for p(n) is determined, compute the series (remember 1 + x + x^2 + x^3 + ... = 1/(1-x), if |x|<1)
Take the derivative of both sides.

Can anyone help factor this polynomial completely?

x^2 + xy +3x - 2y^2 + 2y +2.

The closest I've got is:

(x + 2y + 1)(x - y +2) which gives me x^2 +xy + 3x - 2y^2 + 3y + 2.

The only difference in my answer is that the second last term should be 2y not 3y.

If anyone could help that would be wonderful!!!

The question is take the derivative of this:

f(x) = (x^2 + 2x +3)e^-x

I got f'(x) = (2x+2)(e^-x) + (x^2 + 2x +3)(e^-x)'

I know that the derivative of e^x is e^x but what about e^-x?

I thought that it was maybe (-1)(e^-x)

So when I simplified, I got

(-1)(x^2 + 1)(e^-x) but, this was wrong, and I can't figure out why....
