I had a large tree in the middle of my back yard. I wanted to have it cut down but was afraid it might hit my fence. It was 2pm on a clear sunny day. I need to know how tall the tree was i guess but i cant climb the tree (wheelchair bound). I had only a yard stick, a tape measure, and a pencil and paper. In 5 minutes i knew how tall the tree was. Now, please someone tell me how i did it. It's an east math solution........dang, i hope i didnt leave any info out, this question really helped me to like math and know that you really may use it someday.

I have an order of operations question in algebra that is stumping me.

The problem is 6[(Zsquared +3 (0+2)]
The value of Z is -4.

These are my steps so far:

6[Zsquared+3(2)]

6 [Zsquared+6]

6[-16+6]

Now I am stuck. Do I get rid of the brackets and the problem becomes 6-16+6, or do I keep the brackets and multiply using the distributive property?

Also, if you see any problems with the work I have done so far, please let me know. Thanks!

God bless!

I've always been curious how this is done. I've had a lot of math but never seen anything that shows how to do it.

If mathematics is logical, then why does it doesn't make sense to most people?

I guess this question tends to involve a little bit of philosophy. Please do not give lame, pointless or provoking answer.

why is it that our math system is based on ten digits (0-9). before we repeat the first digit zero. i would assume that we started, long ago doing math with our ten fingers. what if we had 4 or 6 fingers? and we based our math system on 8 or 12 digits before we repeated the first digit? could we do that? would it work? and would it or would it not be complimentary to our ten digit system?
