The value of £100 in 1835 (I've taken the midpoint of '1830s' for accuracy) would be:
£7,700.64

A rough guide to inflation over the years is that values double every decade. So about 170 years ago is 17 decades which would give an estimated value of £13,107,200.

Don't know but values certainly do change significantly. When I recently visited Chatsworth House I discovered my savings at to days value would have been enough to buy this magnificent stately home and gardens when it was built. Today I don't think it would buy any sort of house.

Compare that from US $400-600.00 per year wages, or less, to today's wages
@ US $30,000.00.
Maybe multiply by 50.
Ranch hands in the US made $1-2 per month plus board.
During the Great Depression, a worker made US $1-2 per day. $300-600 per year.
In 1941, US $900.00 per year wage, avg., was common. $1,800.00 was high wages.
The last 1941 new automobile Cheverolet was
US $900-950.00.
1953, my late wife earned $90.00 per month as a secretary, before we married. I was earning $350.00 per month in management.
A new Ford basic auto was $2,000.00.
This may give you an idea. UK, no idea.

In that time you could probably buy a nice decent sized house with a swimming pool, (if they where invented) a maid and butler.
