Of course the terms 'money' and 'publish' may have had completely different meanings in Euclid's time than today's.

So if you know greek history AND history of mathematics, this question is for you.

I know that it has a root at x=1

It also obviously has some imaginary roots being it is a 5th degree polynomial...and only has one real root.....but how would I go about finding the imaginary roots?

f(x)=x^4 -3x^3+2

I must factor and/or use the quadratic formula to find all zeros of the give function.

Obviously I can't use the quadratic formula right off the bat being it's not a quadratic equation.....I was thinking of using the rational root theorem and synthetic division to get it to degree 2, but there must be an easier way....any help would be great...

f(x) = 2x^3 - 5x^2 - 1 and g(x) = x^2 - x + 1. Let r(x) = [f(x)]/[g(x)] . Then the graph of r(x) has a slant asymptote of the form

y = 2x + 4

y = 2x + 3

y = 2x + 2

y = 2x - 1

or none of these

a) If x < 4, then |2x – 8| = 8 – 2x.

b) For all x, |x2 + x + 1| = x2 + x + 1.

c) For all x > 0, |x|/x2 = 1/x.

d) For all x < 0, |x|/x2 = 1/x.

e) At least one of the above statements is false.

NOTE: People sometimes squawk at (e). But if all of (a), (b), (c), and (d) are true, isn't (e) false? And similarly, if one of the first four is false, then (e) is true, isn't it?
