The area (or square footage) of a room is determined by multiplying the length (in feet) of the room times its width (in feet).
For example: A room 10 feet wide and 20 feet long would have 10 ft x 20 ft = 200 ft squared (or square feet)
of area.
In mathematics courses they will test your complete understanding of this idea by giving you the dimensions sometimes in feet (for one measurement) and yards (for the other measurement). That way you have to do a little conversion to like terms before you do the simple multiplication. Be on the look out for this idea...
Another way to make you exercise that gray matter in your head is to tell you that the width is 10 feet and the length is 10 feet longer. So what do you multiply to get area? If you didn't fall for the trick, you will multiply 10 feet by 20 feet. See... all a matter of listening to what they say and "understanding the words."
Have a nice day.

MAke sure each measurement is in unit lengths of feet then multiply the length times the width to get the square footage.
ex. Length = 2 ft
Width = 8 ft
2 ft X 8 ft = 16 square feet.

Area (which would be measured in square feet) has the following formula:
Area = Length * Width
Therefore, you just multiply your two numbers (once you're sure the units match!) to find the area.

Get the length and the width *in feet* and then multiply the two together.
For example, if a room is 120 in. by 120 in. then it's 10 ft by 10 ft.
10 ft × 10 ft = 100 ft²

Depends on the shape of the room. If it's a rectangle, multiply the length and width together (they both have to be in feet).

Multiply lenght times width. ie. Room is 12 feet by 10 feet. 12x10=120 feet squared. Another way of looking at it is: how many 1 foot by 1 foot tiles would it take to cover the floor? 10 tiles along one wall plus every row of tiles needed. 10+10+10... (12 times).

Length of room in feet, times your height in centimeters. Then take the width of the room in meters, divided by your age in years.
Then multiply those two numbers together and divide by the year. If that number looks just WAY too big, go back and divide by the year in the Chinese calendar.
If that still doesn't look right, call me at 1-900-what.the. hell?
