I know the answer to this one, I want you to think though. After the post time runs out, if the correct answer was not given I will post it myself. It's pretty interesting.

This isn't a homophobic question, rather a scientific one. Natural selection, the well-proven driver of evolution, selects those that have reproductive superiority over other members of the species. Those that leave offspring with better fitness eventually spread their genes throughout the population.

Gay men and women who never reproduce should be selected against if genes are involved in homosexuality. Yet, up to 10% of humans may be gay. Why are gays still with us?

I took a class in evolutionary biology last semester in college(very enlightening-I highly recommend it to everyone to take at least one class on the topic) and my professor mentioned that what we consider ourselves to be--H. sapiens--is actually a subspecies of a larger group that included extinct groups of "archaic H. sapiens". Does anyone have any more information on the topic? Thanks!

Domain: Eukaryota
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Primates
Superfamily: Hominoidea
Family: Hominidae
Subfamily: Homininae
Tribe: Hominini
Subtribe: Hominina
Genus: Homo
Species: H. sapiens
Subspecies: H. s. sapiens
(look up the terms if you need to. I'm lazy)

From this classification, humans ARE animals. I know creationists take issue with this. My question is, simply, "Why?" Is it really so bad to think of ourselves as evolved-primates? We've come a long way. I'm proud of that.
