hormonal changes as aging progresses cause the body to 'insulate' different areas as need dictates. warmth increases circulation, and improves performance of aging and failing body parts, ears included. as hearing fades, more hair grows there to increase the warmth, and therefore, circulation in and around the ears. aging men have hair development events all over the body. especially the back areas.

Hair, for men, is a peculiar thing as we age. Rather than grow out the top of our heads, it becomes lazy and seeks alternate routes.....ears (inside and out), noses (inside and out), eyebrows, etc. Why? Maybe because it's old and tired of making the climb to the top to get out?........................

it's a function of age. hair starts sprouting where you don't want it, but won't grow where you do.
