I'm not from any religion, but, I'm not sure we came from a monkey. I heard we were genetically created by another inteligent life form so they can survive because they lost the ability to reproduce them selves.

NASA scientists said they discovered a fifth planet orbiting a star outside our own solar system and say the discovery suggests there are many solar systems that are, just like our own, packed with planets.
The new planet is much bigger than Earth, but is a similar distance away from its sun. The star is very much like our own sun. It has about the same mass and is about the same age as our sun.

Thankyou to everyone who put me straight on the moons synchronus rotation around its own axis and not the earths.
My son is very happy to be an IOU millionaire at 13 ! ( see my original question)
As I understand it, the slowing of the moons `natural` speed of rotation was caused by the earth and moons gravitational pull.
If the moon were to break free of the earth`s pull would it start spinning quicker, stay the same or fly off like a rock.
Ah you can see I`m still a bit sceptical. So the crux of my question is how do we know it is still rotating. after all this time in synchronous orbit how do we know it hasn`t just stopped

Some days in the afternoons, when you observe the sky, you see the bright sun and faded moon. It is clear that the moon is directly exposed to the sun, but still only three fourth or less of moon is seen. When exposed to sun directly, I believe the faded moon needs to be full round, since the whole moon is exposed to sun. Why it is not a full moon at that time?

I recently bought a used Tasco Luminova reflector. I seem to be too incompetent to figure out how to use the equatorial mount. I also can't seem get anything to appear in the eyepiece, I've swept the sky randomly and can't seem to see anything at all, and before you say it I did remove the end cap.

Assue there are beings living on Pluto who are interested in Astronomy. Their Astronomers are able to measure the apparent positions of stars( i.e. angles between stars) with the same accuracy as we can here on Earth. The distance from Pluto to the Sun is about 40A.U.
1)Would the aberration of starlight be greater or less on Pluto than on Earth? Why?
2)How much dimmer does the Sun appear from Pluto than from the Earth?

This is probably a stupid question, but Draco can be seen in which part of the sky right now? I'm pretty sure the north, but I'm not totally positive. Astronomy isn't my strong point. I really need the answer for a paper I'm writing in Science.

I have been worried that an asteroid will hit Earth. I have heard from some places. I had a nightmare one night that all of a sudden an asteroid hit Earth and a guy was screaming "AHHH!!! WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!" It scared me. I have been afraid of the world ending when I'm on it. I can't imagine dying. :( Can someone give me facts or something that in a course of about 90 years that the world will not end. Oh yeah and when I woke up from my dream I was sweating and my heart was beating fast.
