Eh.. Why is everyone all hyped up about 2012?
I know about the Mayan Calendar and all that...
But don't you think maybe that's just a silly prediction... ? >_>..
If anything, In 2012 we should be worrying about Global Warming -_-

I pretty much understand how it was created.I just want to understand the process of the beginning until now.
For example, in the beginning 4 parts divided ... gravity, strong, weak, electromagnetic.... stars formed from hydrogen, dust spinning.. collaspse of gravity... etc etc

I do have a seperate question.
Whats the difference between a supernova and a nebula?

Supposedly we landed on the Moon in 1969, but how did we get there? The space shuttle launch videos show the shuttle going up into the sky, but you would have to dig through the ground to get out of Earth.

Is this the main reason that people don't believe that we landed on the Moon?

if you cut a atom a half then cut that half in half and continue as long as there is a half it will go on forever, now if you look at space when does it end, how can there be an ending it can not stop, so where do we stand ??

ok my first main question is about the new planet definition, recently the 2006 definition of a planet stated that it was a celestial body that:
is in orbit around the Sun,
has sufficient mass so that it assumes a hydrostatic equilibrium (nearly round) shape, and
has "cleared the neighborhood" around its orbit.
b/c of this and other reasons pluto is no longer considered a planet. I was wondering though why isn't neptune no longer considered a planet due to the fact that pluto's orbit intersects with neptunes stating that neptune has not 'cleared the neighborhood' around its orbit therefore not qualifying all three statements of a planet.

also on an aside note because Pluto's orbit intersects with Neptune's technically Pluto was the 8th planet in the solar system from 1979 to 1999 and Neptune was the ninth, did I just fall asleep in class and missed this? b/c I don't remember teachers telling me this....was that common teaching? or did they just leave that out as to not confuse us.

This is my son's first telescope and I want him to be able to see stars and other details I have tried reading up on telescopes on the internet and I'm more confused than when I started. Please give your opinion on one's you've tried personally or any information you may know also I'm open to suggestion.
Thank You

I'm living in the southern part of the Republic of Ireland. At 05.50 am GMT I was driving directly east on my way to work. I could see the moon clearly in front of me. I could see no other stars in the sky but I could see a very bright (non moving) object directly above and just slightly to the right of the moon. It looked incredibly bright and this was seen in a suburban area.

Was this a planet or a star and can you give me it's name, please?

Why do we see spiral shaped galaxies when gravity should pull everything into a sphere? You don't see any spiral shaped planets. Infact, what is stopping gravity from pulling everything in a galaxy into one massive ball of matter?

I think the speed of light can be misleading. It causes one to think that light accelerates -to or radiates-at its max speed. Which is roughly around 186,000km per second in a vaccum also referred to as (c). Is this an objective measurement? Perhaps 186,000km per second (Speed of electromagnetic radation in vaccum) is the fastest that our eyes/brain can register lights information? The data has to be there before we can receive it, correct? Perhaps this is why the speed of light is the same in all refrence frames? Does light really have a speed? They say that it travels at different speeds in different mediums, right? Faster in a vaccum and slower in air. So if light travels in a vaccum, through air, back in a vaccum, through air - its speed will accelerate/decelerate according to the medium? Thats like a bullet traveling faster when it exists a body. Am I saying that light travels instantaneously? Well, are we ever without light? That would be a black hole, right?
