I don't know the exact origins of the doom prophecy for 2012, but after debunking these "alignment" claims, I have discovered something I didn't know before.
Sure, the ecliptic and the galactic equator intersect at two points in Sagittarius. The galactic center is about 5 or 6 degrees away. Not impressive. And this "alignment" occurs every year. But what I discovered is that the intersection of these two planes occurs *right* on the winter solstice, maybe even within a couple of *hours* of it.
Now, imagine someone poring over charts and old calendars and seeing this, apparently corresponding with the last day of the Aztec calendar. Sure, the person should have asked some questions about it, but if they didn't know this happens every year, I could see why doom-diggers would flip out. Is this what got them all excited? Well at least it wasn't a total waste. I learned something.

I have this extra credit question to do in science and it is "what is dark matter and how far away is it from us (humans)?" I know what dark matter is, I just need the approximate distance.

I heard that people buy the moon in acre parcels, and wondered if this is a good investment or a con.

I heard that the moon is slowly but steadily pulling earth towards it, and im arguing with my friend, who thinks the earth is being pulled into outer space slowly. We both know that it is not going to be immediate, I know. But Im looking online for the answer, and I find mixed results, not finding a definate answer. Which is it?

I mean, it is obvious that it has happened many times! What would happen if one hit the moon and adjusted its orbit by like...just a few feet?

Would you want to see what the future is like? Or would you want to change something in the past? You can't choose both.
