This question might make me sound racist, but iam not. My question is about when or if we go to Mars, will the powers that be make sure that the first person on Mars is a minority or a woman?

They say that the Earth should last for at least 5 billion (5×10^9) more years, before the Sun becomes a red giant, then the earth will be melted into the atmosphere of the Sun.
Can anyone please help prove this theory as a wrong statement, to backup supported judgements of true theory about when the Sun will actually reach Earth or its orbit.

A recent question about changing asteroids' orbits is in line with my own thoughts lately. It seems to me that with enough advanced warning, an ion thruster could be landed on an asteroid and used to divert its orbit enough to take it out of harm's way.

Thinking of the reason that Pluto will never collide with Neptune, I thought that possibly inclining an asteroid's orbit might be easier than raising its apehelion above 1au.

Unfortunately, I don't know all the formulas involved so it's not a simple answer for me. Assuming diverting orbits of Neo's as a given, which would be better - increasing their energy to stay outside Earth's orbit, or inclining them off of the ecliptic so that there is no intersection.

Would we really have a chance at blowing up a global-killer comet or asteroid? Would there be enough time to land on it and drill a hole, would it blow apart or change its trajectory, would we be able to stay in contact with the astronaut drillers while they were working, etc….

- Where in our Universe will it start from?
- How long will the event last?
- How much damage will it do to vulnerable parts in our galaxy (Milkyway)?
- How can we possibly avoid them from bombarding through Earths' atmosphere?
- Will they only strike Earth or other planets in Milkyway, including our Sun and satellites?
