Actually, it was 65,000,002 years ago. I know, because I asked a scientist 2 years ago, and he said then that it happened 65 million years before then.

The Earth frequently gets hit by meteors, most are small but a few are big enough to cause major catastrophes.
225 million years ago a big one hit near Newfoundland and caused the extinction of 95% of life on Earth.
65 million years ago the Yucatan Peninsular was hit and most of the dinosaurs were wiped out.
Some time in the last 10,000 years we had strikes in Arizona, Wolf Creek in Australia and 100 years ago a comet exploded just above the surface in Tunganista in Russia.
We are over due for a medium sized hit.
