This question might make me sound racist, but iam not. My question is about when or if we go to Mars, will the powers that be make sure that the first person on Mars is a minority or a woman?

Not so much the group that goes to Mars, but the first person to step foot on Mars.

I wouldn't be surprised. Personally, I would like to see a woman be the first to set foot on the planet. I think that would be a kind of stirring metaphor.

When and if we have a human space flight to Mars, I'm quite sure that crew selection will be based on best qualified mentally, physically and intellectually.
Long duration space flight astronauts must also possess high levels of these three attributes: Aptitude, Motivation, and Sensitivity.
Aptitude evaluates an astronaut's ability to function effectively in an extended-duration mission environment.
Motivation defines the degree of interest and enthusiasm for the job with a high degree of mission-oriented motivation.
Sensitivity to self and others is believed to demonstrate emotional maturity.

Many times scientist have tried sending radio messages to other galaxies and planets. All show examples of white men and women as the humans of the planet earth.
Therefore I undoubtedly believe a white person would be the first pick, be they male or female. Especially since many caucasians openly or secretly feel all other races other than caucasian are "sub-human."

No one will be going to Mars because they are a token minority or a token woman. That's dumb.
Who ever goes will have to prove they are the best of the best no matter what sex or race they are.

Interesting question. My guess is they will have a mixed bunch. Nothing like being politically correct. Oh, and they will be from several countries, too.
