What is the difference between a 'lunar eclipse' and a 'new moon'? As far a i understand they are both the same i.e. the earth comes in between the sun and the moon, thereby rendering the moon invisible to earth. Please explain it in detail...i'm really confused.

How far away can we currently see and how long ago did the light leaving those places leave?
Another question: As our tools become more advanced, will it ever be possible to see so far away that we can actually see far back enough in time to witness the universe's begining?

I know that a black hole is a star that has collapse in on itself. And it collapses to a point with zero volume and infinite density. But i remember reading an article somewhere that said because blackhole have such a large gravitational pull that it would create a time dilation. Is this all based off of Einstein's general theory of relativity?
And if so would that mean that all time is based off of matter and gravitational fields?

Is it because of the gravity? If it is gravity why is the star luminous? If gravity is pulling the light, why isn't it a black hole already?

Please no rude answers, thanks!

The European Smart 1 Satellite crashed on the moon early Sunday. Does anyone know if it created a visible crater or altered the moonscape? Or did a tree just fall in the woods?

If time is warped around a black hole then couldn't an instantaneous action seem to last an eternity thereby making us immortal in relative terms? In other words, how would time be percieved there? Would we live eternally in that instant?

You are lost at sea, Fortunately you have some astronomical tables and instruments and a Universal time clock. 1. It is the spring equinox 2. The Sun is on your meridian at altitude 75 degrees in the south. 3. The UT clock reads 22:00
The questions are----What is your latitude? how do you know?
What is your longitude? how do you know?
Based on your position where is the closest land and which way do you have to go to get there. The third part is easy but my partner and I cant seem to get the first two even after running through our books like 100 times. Thanks for the help, I mean that!

My very excelent mother just served us nine pizzas. I for one don't think that it is right that my mother can't serve us pizza any more. I don't think that nuggets will be able to take pizza's place. How do you feel about pizza (Pluto)?
