If you do the math of the rate of decline in the earth's rotational speed and project it to the point where the length of a day would double, the answer that you get in the number of years that it would take gives a whole new meaning to the word Google, and this is Yahoo! (Thankfully!!) It would take a long, long, time!

Technically no. It would take probably a billion years (give or take) before earth's rotation is tidally locked with the moon. Even then, earth will still be left with about a two week "day"....plenty of daylight for growing. Of course, by that time the sun will have gotten so bright that our world would be too hot to support life as we know and love it.

Yellowstone Park, the world's largest super-volcano, will almost certainly erupt again before the earth's rotation slows appreciably. Based on past eruption cycles, it's already 30,000 years past due.
When this event happens, it's bye-bye humanity.

Well, i assume that you think if it were rotating too slowly, the hot side would get too hot and the cold side would get too cold?
Meaning massive thunderstorms every night and every morning.
It's a neat thought.
I assume you weren't really worried about dieing because of it.

the earth will die out before it ever stops spinning. We are more at risk of the earth blowing up by humankind. No need to worry about it stopping to spin.
