Astronomy & Space - September 2006

[Selected]: All categories Science & Mathematics Astronomy & Space

Why does it seem that there are so many people who ONLY show interest in the space program and it's expeditions when they are going to the moon or Mars? But when there are problems and delays they (including the media) completely abandon all interests in the program? I'm very passionate about space exploration and support it no matter what the circumstances. It just frustrates me to see these people who are only interested when there is a tragedy or NASA is about to take a “giant leap for mankind”.

Who feels that the Phoenix UFO sighting on March 13, 1997 was a genuine alien spacecraft(s) of extraterrestrial origin? Thousands of people saw those lights, which were recorded and even on the news ... they moved way to slow to be anything that we (humans) built ... it was way to big to be a stealth bomber. It looks like the single most significant UFO sighting of all time to me. The more appropriate question would be "If it wasn't a visitation from aliens, what else could it have been". Weather balloons? LOL, I don't think so. Check this site out:

The earth moves at tens of thousands of kph around the sun. The sun moves at hundreds of km/s around the milky way. (217km/s apparently)

The galaxy is measurable but the universe in unimaginably big. Is the galaxy moving around the universe at a far higher speed than this? Could this speed be depicted as thousandths or hundredths' of C?

If yes, would there be severe time dilation between different galaxies if they were travelling at different speeds?

On Yahoo Answers, many many people have been saying that its not a planet... what about the textbooks? On one of the questions, some one said they heard that they were only considering it... Did they make a conclusion? And if they DID make a comclusion, when was it made?
