A body which is under the direct influence of gravity has potential energy. if the body starts moving vertically upwards (crossing even the escape velocity), it loses potential energy which is converted into kinetic energy. IF EARTH IS SAID TO MOVE VERTICALLY DOWNWARDS, TAKING THE OBJECT AS FRAME OF REFERENCE, WHERE DOES THE POTENTIAL ENERGY OF THE BODY GO????????

So you know how people say space goes on and on and on, is this true?

Surely it cant just go on and on and on can it? Obviously everything has to come to an end? - Or maybe have we just been brought up to think that?

Furthermore, if it does come to an end, what is on the other side of that ending?

I know its to do with Gravity. But my question is more broad than the sun and the earth. Why does the moon orbit the earth? earth orbit the sun etc. What is it in the gravitational pull that makes the satellite go around. As i understand it, gravity is a pull towards, not around. You try to make a coin float in the earth atmosphere and gravity will pull it down; it wont start orbiting. So surely instead of going around the sun we should just be getting ever closer, rather than spiraling in to the sun. Where is the pull/ sideways energy that brings us around?

OK, so the universe is still expanding and galaxies are moving away from each other, so why is it that we will collide with andromeda and our galaxies will merge.

Also, im told that although the universe is expanding, this only means the space between the galaxies is growing and the galaxies themselves stay the same size, why?

Don't shout at me girls. I only ask because none of my female friends are remotely interested, and it's only men that are willing to talk about things like this.

(Please don't confuse lack of interest with lack of intelligence - I haven't).
