Recently a Northwest Airlines DC-10 was escorted down to the Schiphol airport. I am not sure if this is right, but I seem to have read somewhere that the pilot of the plane requested an escort. When offered other emergency support such as fire engines, he declined it.
Who pays for the money spent on scrambling the fighers
and other associated expenses in such cases? Does NW Airlines
have to shell it out, or does the US government pay for it, or does it work on the principle of reciprocity (i.e. if the Dutch airlines/government ever needs help, US will respond in kind)?
Or is such support covered under the NATO treaty, even
for civilian airlines?

at some point in history, perhaps too far back to know, a decision was made to make the start of the 24 hour day begin timing at a certain point in the earths orbit. the earths position relative to the sun. why was it made that the day starts (1201am) at that given point in the earths orbit? shouldnt the day start closer to sun up?

The north pole is farther from the sun than the equator. So when the temperature is 30 C at the equator its way below zero in the north pole. But Mars is more farther from the earth but still sometimes the temperature goes above zero. Why?

The reason why I"m doing this is because I want to know how much people knows there solar system and how much don't. If you do have any good websites about space can you please give it to me I need it. If you don't know why I told you not to add pluto is because pluto is not considered a planet anymore.

It has been a Planet since the 1930's and now we just kick it to the curb.If you were a Planet and that happened to you, how would you feel? Assuming of course, that Planets had feelings. I say leave the damn thing alone, it's not hurting anything by being called a Planet. There are bigger things to be concerned with on THIS PLANET.
