The purpose of the IAU meeting is NOT to find a scientific definition for a planet. Science does not NEED a definition. No matter what we define Pluto, it will still be out there, unchanging. Rather, the meeting is to find a cultural definition because our culture has embarked on us a belief that everything must be defined, everything must be SOMETHING and i think the astronmers failed to realize this...

This week, it was announced that Pluto is no longer considered to be a planet, because it's too small. But new planets like Ceres are added to the solar system. To all of the astrologists out there, do you think it'll cause an astrological inbalance like for Scorpios? (I'll be reposting this question also in the Horoscope category too.)

I'm talking about Charon, Xena and that large hunk of rock, I think it was called Ceres. What is Xena now? And if Pluto is a dwarf-planet, what is Charon? A dwarf-moon? Is Ceres back to being just a wayward asteroid? I'd really like to know. Links with more information along with your answers would be extra helpful and more likely to gain you 10 points...thanks!

Is it just a size thing? Does it also have to do with an irregular orbit? What does the new definition exactly entail, not just with Pluto but with any other new bodies discovered out there in the solar system?

I watched a special one time that said the sun was shrinking then went out to professionals who said that your source was not correct and I could not remember the name of the source on television. So I think about this from time to time as it seems to represent the ozone arguments which go to extremes on both sides.

I read the other day that some people think there is a planet exactly like earth, in our same orbital pattern exactly on the opposite side of the sun. It can never been seen because of the sun, and can never be verified because of the flight patterns of space vehicles (Hubble space telescope etc) are always sent in the opposite direction. Has anyone read about this? Hey...anything is possible.
