NASA waist millions each year on crap. You think the pen thing is bad, how about the $620,000,000.00 American dollars they spent on a pair of scissors. I think stupid would be an understatement. But like anything the government has their hands in is a ripe off to the public.

NASA did NOT spend millions on a space pen. That story is just false, although stupid people repeat it all the time. See the source for the truth.

Actually, everyone here who believes this myth is making a fool of themselves by claiming to know anything about NASA or their economical spendings. Last time I checked, none of you were the treasury advisers of NASA in the 1960's.

The story is a myth, and there is no such million-dollar space pen.

NASA's forerunner NACA was astute enough to realise the potential for Space flight ( even if they missed the early potential
work of Robert Goddard, they didn't miss out on Werner Von Braun) and subsequently are the most powerful-est Nation on Earth.
If the USA is stupid then why are we Allied to them? Would you shack up with a idiot? Regardless of how much they spend on their Space Program, they can afford to.

using a pencil means putting more dust (shavens and LOADS of dust) in the space pods/shuttle/labs. The dusts then gets in the air filters and prevents air from being recycled: Then everyone dies...

Yeah, great idea...

The special pen NASA created was a necessity.

(by the way, NASA is in the USA : they spend dollars, not pounds)

You're all a bunch of stupid asses. NASA is an acronym for National Aeronautics and Space Administration, so the correct phrasing of the question would be:

Is the NASA stupid?

And if it weren't for NASA there would not be digital watches, microwaves MRI's or for that matter the Internet so NO the people at NASA are not stupid. Overall anyway I'm sure there are a few stupid ones...

Stupid not necessary, but they sometimes forget to check the simplest thing which can cause the rocket to exploded. Not to mention the cost of millions to build-ed. But new discover needed to be found in space so one organization needs to take charge (NASA) so far.

I don't think they are stupid because they are always spending to discover more information that human beings don't know yet.
