The moon's rising and setting is not synchronized to the the sun's rising and setting so you can have the moon up during the day but not at night. It might be a new moon (actually I'm showing that as the night before last with tonight's just a sliver of a crescent).

Is The Moon Out Tonight

The moon takes about 24 hrs and 50 minuets to go around the earth. This mean it will be in the same place at the same time only once every 28 days. There are many phases in between.
Some of the time it can be hard to see because it is very thin cresent or the weather can cover it. Half of the time it is on the other side of the earth at night and is up during the daytime. Tell your friend not to worry I saw it tonight just before it went down right after dark

there is always a moon, although midday. but the problem is, can you see it or not (from earth). it is because of the lunar phase. There is new moon, crescent moon, full moon, and others. Probably when your friend saw the sky at night, it was a new moon. so he cannot see the moon. for more information about lunar phase, see the link below

There is always a moon. No matter what time of day it is, the moon always exists. Check your calendar, see if it is a 'New Moon' period. During 'New Moon', the moon is covered by the Earth's shadow and much harder to be seen by the naked eye.

Not always. You just answered your own question. It could be because of clouds. Is your friends on drugs? No, seriously...why freak about the moon. Freak out when you see it exploding or something.

um, the moon is in the waxing crescent phase, that means that only 10% of the Moon's is visible, the shadow from the earth is covering 90% of the moon therefore there is very small amout of the Sun's light being reflected off of the moon, once every month the Moon is in the "New Moon" phase (which occured 3 days ago) which means the earth's shadow is covering 100% of the Moon, that means no light from the sun being reflected off of the moon at all so to us it looks like there is no Moon, but it is always there.

yes the moon is always there at night but sometimes the earth blocks the suns rays and it looks like there's no moon ( It's called a new moon ) and yes sometimes the clouds block your view.
