I want to convert my dory into a peddle-boat by mounting a recumbant bicycle onto the boat and running a variable pitch propellor through a drive shaft. How can I convert the rotational force of the bicycle in the vertical plane (like a bike wheel spinning) to the transverse plane (like a propellor turning)?

Could this be an efficient method of propulsion? The only pedal boats that I have seen are those very inefficient pontoon boats on ponds. Why isn't pedalling used more as a propulsion system in a boat - it seems to me an under-used strategy.

P.S. - I like rowing but I hate facing backwards all the time.

There hasn't been a sunspot on the sun for 26 days now, does this happen regularly during a solar minimum or is it quite rare for the sun to go so long without one.

I'm thinking of joining the The British Bone Marrow Registry, but I'm not sure what you actually have to do.

I give blood at the moment and that's fun, you get free biscuits and coffee, plus I get to see a bag of my red stuff.

What happens when you give bone marrow though? Is it an operation? Does it hurt? Do you have to stay in hospital? Does it affect your life? How do they get the marrow? What is the procedure?

The NBS sent me a video about "Your First Blood Donation" before I donated blood for the first time, is there anything like that around for bone marrow?

In a certain sequence of numbers, each term after the first term is 3 times the preceding term. If a and b are two terms in this swquence and if a / b is 27, how many terms are there between a and b, not including a and b?

In the right triangle ABC above, y/3=3/x + y. What is the value of y?

Right Triangle ( Hypotenuse facing the bottom.) (Base is 3 on the right)(Height is 4 on the left) ( Right angle on the top is making a altitude to the bottom making a point D and a right angel to the left.) Now There should be 2 triangles connecting to each other first one on the left is ABD 2nd is BDC.

So far im guessing that triangel BDC should be a right triangel as well

Maybe it would be financially unviable to make aeroplanes out of this material- but then why have a health service that costs billions of pounds to run?

Or, maybe it would be far too expensive to build engines that could withstand the increased weight of the aeroplanes- but how much does it cost to replace the aeroplanes that are destroyed during crashes and improve the design of engines to attends to defects etc. and limit the contribution they had to the crashes in the first place?
