watershed is the limit/extent of the groundwater around any watercourse this is usually determined by the topology, geology and vegetation of the local area. However the watershed is not a fixed boundary and can be changed by many factors

Including:-

The amount of rainfall
The nature of the underlying rock
The degree of vegetation
The altitude
Weather/Climate
Mans activity
deep mining
i.e open cast mining
gravel extraction
construction i.e. towns and cities
water extraction (i.e. pumping water from aquifers)
Dams / Pumped storage schemes

Theese can all be factors - Other geological factors can also affect the limit or change the position of the watershed in any given area - i.e. earthquakes / volcanoes can have a dramatic impact on the usual water courses and can cause the watershed in that are to change and move.
