say your at point a, you set out to go to point b, in between you there is a vacuum. why does it take time to get to point b? if there is nothing between two points than there is nothing to cross, right? why does it take time and energy to pass through nothing?

someone please help me with these math problems on percentages.
1) By giving a discount of 30%, a trader makes a profit of 20%. If the trader had given a discount of $400, he would have incurred a loss of 20%. Find the marked price(price before discount) of the article.
2) A bag contains balls of 3 different colors-red,blue and green. The number of blue balls is 12.5% lesser than the number of red balls and 40% more than the number of green balls. By what percent is the sum of the blue and green balls less than the sum of the red and blue balls?

I want the explanation if possible.. just the answer wont help.
Thanks in advance.

100cm^3 of vinegar at 15 degrees centigrade was made upto 250cm^3 of solution with distilled water. 25.0cm^3 of this solution required 16.9cm^3 of 0.5M NaOH for neutralisation. Assuming that all the acidity of vinegar is caused by ethanoic acid, CH3COOH, calculate the percentage by mass of the acid in the original vinegar. The density of vinegar at 15 degree centigrade is 1.02g cm^-3.

3x^2-10x-10=0

I get x=4.13 and x=-0.81 when I enter this in my calculator
I think this problem requires you simpifly the radical once you input the values in the quadratic formula but I am unsure how to do that in this question to get the answer the calculator shows.

In a photoelectric experiment, it is found that a stopping potential of 1.00 V is needed to stop all the electrons when incident light of wavelength 260 nm is used and 2.30 V is needed for light of wavelength 207 nm. From these data, determine Planck's constant and the work function of the metal.

Recently, the first Malaysian Astronaut has conducted an experiment on which a spinning top will keep spinning in the space station...

I am kinda curious on this experiment..
My question is, Since there is air inside the space station, there should be air resistance acting on the top, right?? so, the top should stop moving after a while, isn't it??
If the top keeps spinning due to MICROGRAVITY, how?? Please explain why a top will keep spinning and even picks up speed on its own under microgravity condition... in brief, how does microgravity influence the non stop motion of the spinning top??

Thank you

As we know (most I hope) Universe is a specific enviroment... When I think about space shuttle using rockets then I think - *Fish in the air or bird in the water... and its not even flying fish or pinguin*... Fully adapted to fly in space mother ship would cut costs of transporting (if using centrifugal or other kind of propulusion)... Part of taking off from planet would be turned just to sending cargo and equipment in smaller and less weighing shuttles... The only one problem is that it takes huge effort at beggining to build such thing (piece by piece like orbital station)... but after making it we will have like in life - costs will be turned back.... I am just asking what they are doing in their *secret* work... Lets say... I am a bit... hungry for effects... Thanks for any info from the start...
