A website I recently visited described the Cassini Probe flight as requiring two loops around Venus and one around the Earth prior to its flight to Saturn because no launcher was powerful enough to send the probe on a direct route to Saturn. Does this mean that the loops reduced the required flight time, or does it mean that we are unable to launch a probe that can fly direct to Saturn? What was or is the limiting factor? I was under the impression that once the probe was on its way through space there was nothing to stop its progress on such a mission.

The idea that God set up the laws of nature and the structure of the Universe in such a way that all that is spontaneously blossomed into existence is more amazing and spectacular then spiting on the ground and making Adam. The more I learn about Evolution and Science, the more I glorify God for it.
Enoch was right when he described evolution in the word of God.

I manage a drive-in movie theatre so I am very aware of what time it's dusk during the summer season. Over the entire summer, dusk time changed by no more than a few minutes from week to week. However, a few weeks ago I was at the drive-in on Sunday night at about 8:45 and it was just barely dark enough to start the movie. By the following Friday (5 days later) it was suddenly dark enough by about 8:20.

Can anyone shed some light on why dusk time would change so drastically in just a few days when it normally only changes by 5 minutes over a week. Could it has something to do with the sun's position relative to a distant mountain range or something similar?

For what it's worth, I live in northern California about 3 hours north of the Bay Area.

That is the question I have for part of a chemistry lab, but here are the specifics on what exactly I'm talking about.

We dissolved a silver-copper alloy in nitric acid (HNO3) and added salt (NaCl) so that the silver from the alloy would form a silver chloride precipitate. The point of the lab was to filter this silver chloride precipitate out of the solution so we could find its mass, and then calculate how much silver was in the original alloy.

The question is, why couldn't we have only used hydrochloric acid (HCl) instead to dissolve the alloy and precipitate the silver? Would the alloy still dissolve in the hydrochloric acid so that only an AgCl precipitate forms?

depending on where it hit, what would happen to our vast stores of information? I mean, depending on what got burnt up and who got killed, we might lose some of the most valuable pieces of information in the world. If the comet hit the US, we'd lose the Declaration of Independence. If it hit Egypt, say "bye bye" to the pyramids. If it hit Japan, sayonara Microsoft. (Well, Microsoft Japan. Although the Microsoft in America would probably be wiped out by the tsunami from Japan.) We might also lose valuable information about science and technology. That's a scary thought! Is there nothing we can do? I thought so at first. But then I got to thinking, "What if we stored vast amounts of extremely important information on 500 gigabyte hard drives?" I know about the EMP blast from the comet, so of course they would all be surrounded by Faraday cages, and buried underground so they wouldn't be torched by the heat. So what do you think? Should we start collecting information? Thanks.

Hi! I have a trigonometry question that has been driving me crazy because I can't figure it out! I've tried for nearly 3 hours to no avail! The problem says:

In the figure, angle B is a right angle and the line segment AD bisects angle A. If AB = 10 and BD = 2, find the exact value of CD.

Now I know that this has to do with half angle/double angle identities, but I'm not sure what else to do at this point. I drew the figure on my Paint program on the computer and I uploaded it to photobucket so you can get a visual of what it looks like from my math book. :)

Anyway, I've tried EVERYTHING!!! But I still can't get it! I would copy over all my work here so you can see what I did and where I went wrong, but it took up 17 pages of paper, so that would be too much for me to transcribe. Can you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help with this?!?! I'm desperate! Thank you so much!

Here's the link to my drawing:
