Apparently hurricanes have been seen to generate micro instances of what appears to be time travel. I have read of pieces of straw being found impaled in a solid object such as metal or wood in the aftermath of a hurricane. I lost this reference and wonder if anyone out there has heard anything about this. As I recall the tremendous speed of the vortex was thought to be relevant. Any info on this phenomena?

Doing waves in Physics. I have to know this to avoid embarrassment as my brother (4 years my junior) is closest so far, something to do with waves not being totally reflected. It's kind of a competition between all of us A-level physicists, and my little brother, who likes stealth bombers! I would really appreciate an answer because a guy in the year above who's just got into Oxford uni didn't have a clue. Is this cheating? Help!

I know it is a theory, but how can people believe it? How can people believe that every single living organism evolved from a common ancestor? I mean like...that would mean we were related to..snails and grass?
Before you go any further, here's some questions:
1. Where did the space for the universe come from?
2. How did matter get so perfectly organized?
3. Is it possible that similarities in design between different animals prove a common creator instead of a common ancestor?
4. Natural selection onlyw orks iwth the genetic info availabe and tends only to keep a species stable. How would you explain the increasing complexity in the genetic code that must have occurred if evolution were true???

So I have 200 mL of Water.

The mass of the calorimeter is 24.375g.

The initial mass of the calorimeter w/ the water is 217.833g (193.458g of water)

The final mass is 217.607 (193.232g of water).

The initial temperature is 23.0°C, the final temp is 43.0°C, the change is 20°C.

The mass of ethanol burnt is 1.418g.

So I need to know the Heat released from this mass of ethanol J/g

And Heat released from 1 mole of ethanol kJ/mol.

So I know I use the equation q= -mass x SHC x (change)Temp.

I'm mostly confused about what I plug in for the "mass" part. SHC is 4.184 J/K*g. And the change in Temp would be the 20.0°C which would have to be changed to Kelvins.

But if anyone could show me how to answer both questions fully, I would appreciate it ^ ^. Thanks.

My son is doing a science project to determine which "animal" has the dirtiest mouth. We have sterile cotton swabs to collect the samples. Do we need to put them in a sterile saline solution first, or will the saliva be wet enough to get a good sample? Also, is it best to rub the swab on the agar or roll it on--does it really matter which method is used? Thanks in advance!
