I am a science student, but not in physics, and would like to have a more solid understanding of quantum mechanics. Is there a book that is simple enough for laymen to understand?

For the following reaction to occur
MgSO4 → Mg2+(aq) + SO42−(aq)

the change in enthalpy must be −91.3 kJ/mol

How much heat (kJ) is lost or gained by 278.0 ml of water when 3.01 g of MgSO4 is dissolved in the water ?

What is the change in temperature ( oC ) for the above process assuming no heat is lost or gained by the surroundings ?

t= p/(4d-a) and i am told that p=6.9, d=3.4 and a=5.

a) find the lower bound of t
b) find the upper bound of t

This is just another moment in which I have been given the ability to question the most simple concepts. (this is where your laugh may be inserted) So beside the question of “which came first, the chicken or the egg?” ha ha. I have honestly thought of another just as interesting question: If in our evolution we started with one male and one female(regardless of if it was in human form, monkey, dinosaur, etc) then the following is a run down of what would of happened(as sick as it may seem)

Male has sex with female to produce a child.
Now that child has to either have sex with parent OR wait for the parents to have another child of the opposing sex so that they can have sex together, gosh this all sound like a bunch of incest! But then how else may we have evolved?

Use the most convieninet method to solve the equation.
2x^2 + x - 3

2x^2 + 8x + 3 = 10

3^2 + 4x - 2 = 0

5x^2 - x - 2 = 0

6x^2 + 11x = -3

x^2 + 5 = 7x

x^2 indicates squared or to the whatever power.

Someone please explain this to me.

When we were studying about the Big bang theory in astronomy a couple months ago, I didn't quite get this: How could the universe and everything in it expand from a small mass of whatever? (Sorry I don't remember much, hence me asking this question.) Yes, I am Christian, and I understand that my faith affects how I believe on this topic. But I am seriously wanting to know. I mean, what *caused* this mass to expand?

I would appreciate serious answers and I am not trying to start a big huge debate here. thanks.

I have an assignment for school where I need to read a histogram, but the class did not go over how to read a histogram or how to calculate average or standard deviation.

Here's a picture of the histogram (follow this link): http://www.catanzareti.com/images/Kevin/histogram.jpg

The first question is: Estimate the average metallicity for stars with planets and for field stars.

The second question is: estimate the standard deviation of the field stars.

I don't know how to calculate these figures. Could someone help and explain how I'd find these?

THANKS!
