There is a 3-4-5 right triangle with the hypotenuse as the base. The altitude is drawn from the hypotenuse to the right angle. A circle is then drawn with the diameter being the altitude. What is the distance from the point where the vertex of 3 and 5 is to the point where the circle intersects the side of length 3?

The procedure in my lab asks to dilute pottasium iodate solution (0.2 M) in test tubes, by adding specific volumes of water to the solution (in every test tube place one drop of water more than the previous tube). Then we pour into the test tubes 10ml of (0.001 M) NaHSO3 and wait for a dark bluish colour to appear. My question is, why is it important to add specific volumes of water when diluting pottasium iodate? The purpose of the lab is to figure out the order of reaction of the iodate ions in this experiment.

If square root of negative 1/4 = plus/minus half i. Does that mean that square root four= +-2? whats the difference. I don't think square root 4=+-2 isn't square root 4=2 at least when i press the calculator.
Please explain and hopefully some examples too.

My teacher told me that square root of negative 1/4 = plus/minus half i. Is this correct? I thought that only when s^2=5 then s=+/- square root 5 but when or nvm.

Please explain and any examples would be appreciated.

Hi all,
Im a bit hard up this year and as its Xmas and my jack russell is getting on a bit. I thought it might be nice to have him for dinner Christmas day with some Potatoes and perhaps a sandwich Boxing day with any left overs. How long do you think he needs in the oven and is there any sauce you would recommend that would compliment the meal...

This question popped up in a discussion with a coworker regarding the seasons. As I recall, the angular inclination is approx 13 degrees relative to the Earth’s solar orbital plane, I believe; I’m not certain of this, though. Additionally, I tend to believe that the angle is somewhat constant.

My coworker disagrees, though. He accounts for the seasons by believing the pitch/angle varies throughout the year. But I asked, what phenomenon occurs that is great enough to pitch the Earth up to 13° (or whatever the angle is) in one direction, reverse direction, and then pitch it 13° in the opposite direction? The force required to do this would be tremendous.

I contend that the angle is constant. When the North pole is pitched toward the Sun, the northern hemisphere has its warmer months. At the opposite end of the Earth’s orbit about the sun, the North pole would be pitched away from the Sun, thus the colder months.

Can anyone shine some light on this topic? Thanks for your help.
