I did an experiment in lab where we were determining the heat of neutralization for some solutions and we had to wash the thermometer and dry it after we measured the temp of the NaOH soln and before we measured the temp of the HCl soln...I was just wondering why we were instructed to do that....what would have happened if we didn't?

just curious....thanks!!!

How accurate is the science in that show? They throw alot of terms, acronyms, etc around. I just wonder if it's based on real science or goobledegook. It's a Canadian show so mostly canucks (and people with Bittorrent ;-P) would know of it. It's really good but science-heavy.

My Daughter asks short questions that involve long answers, and her latest was "When you are riding in a car, how come the telephone poles are moving slow when you look out the front window, and moving much faster when you look out the side window?"
The Answer is The theory of relativity, but I'm having trouble explaining it to her so she can understand it. Any Help?
Thanks,
Sparky.

Here is a question that I believe no one can answer correctly! Why do sharks never eat the other fish in the tanks they are kept in at display tanks? I'm refering to such tanks that are displayed in many seaside resorts around the country? It can't be that they are fed regularly, because the sharks would then have to distinguish between what's fed to them and live prey. Also, they would have to realise that they must stave their hunger until someone comes along to feed them. Try as you might, this one gonna stump even the best of you. harold Walters.
