It depends on what type of research they are doing; if it involves manipulation of the DNA in stem cells or simply convincing them to grow how we want them to.
Basic, generic terms for careers that encompass this type of research are Biotechnologist and Microbiologist.
Biologist is simply too broad of a term, particularly with all of the chemistry involved with this type of research. Also, not all scientists are biologists. What about chemists or physicists? They are scientists as well.
