I am looking for a scientific basis, so religious types can bother another question, (science obviously exists, and nature holds all in balance, so...).

My own personal idea is that violence (sketchy) and disease (firmer belief) are to prevent overpopulation. Disease does hit hardest in densely-populated areas, because of the distribution (seems obvious right?) Violence is a bit more difficult to define, and thus I am looking for ideas of the animal world to connect with.

Do not be afraid to use scientific jargon, as i like learning new vocab!

I want to buy a telescope for sky watching. I am physics student so you can guess which sort I need. I have no idea what should be the configuration of a telescope to make decent observations.

Please give me some information on the configuration and name if possible!

The demand for gasoline can be modeled as a linear function of price. If the price of gasoline is p=$1.10 per gallon, the quantity demanded is q=65 gallons. If the price rises to $1.50 per gallon, the quantity demanded falls to 45 gallons in that period. Find a formula for q in terms of p.

i need to apply cavalieri's results to obtain that the volume for the solid is 16(pi)/15. the solid comes from an area bounded by y=1 and y=x^2 revolved around the axis y=1.

this is not an integral problem. i need to use cavalieri's methods. i first found the area:

A=2*sum(from 0 to 1) of (x^0) - 2*sum(from 0 to 1) of (x^2) = 4/3.

so then, cavalieri states that a curve rotated about the x-axis has a volume that can be calculated with:

V = (pi)*sum(from 0 to 1) of (x^(2n)) where n is the power of the curve y=x^n. this is the area under the curve rotated about the x-axis.

how do i go about solving for volume? i need 16(pi)/15, but consistently get 4(pi)/5.... any suggestions? thanks.

Find the volume of the solid obtained by rotating the region bounded by the given curves about the specified axis.
y=0, y= cos(6 x), x = {pi}/{12}, x = 0 about the axis y= -1

is this a washer problem?

I did a lab the other day and part of it was to find out if a reaction took place. One in particular was:
Zn(NO3)2+Cu-->Cu(NO3)2+Zn

The only reason I knew nothing had happened in this reaction (besides the teacher tellin me) is that the final solution was not blue. (I think that means that the Cu did not dissolve into a solution with NO3?)

Anyway, our homework for this lab has asked the question:

Will the following reaction occur?

Fe(NO3)2(aq) + Cu(s) -> Cu(NO3)2(aq) + Fe(s)

I am a little confused as to what he could be asking. Does this mean anything to anyone? Again, we are working with Redox.

Thanks for your help.
Linda
