I'm having problem with this question... Hopefully someone can help? It goes like this:

A particular uranium alloy has a density of 18.75 g/cm^3. What volume if occupied by a critical mass of 49 kg of this alloy? [I calculated 2613.3 cm^3.] The critical mass can be decreased to 16kg if the alloy is surrounded by a layer of natural uranium (which acts as a neutron reflector). What is the volume of the smaller mass?

Actually, I'm a little confused here as to whether the density of the alloy changes when it is surrounded by a neutron reflector. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

Theorem: 3=4
Proof:

Suppose:
a + b = c

This can also be written as:
4a - 3a + 4b - 3b = 4c - 3c

After reorganizing:
4a + 4b - 4c = 3a + 3b - 3c

Take the constants out of the brackets:
4 * (a+b-c) = 3 * (a+b-c)

Remove the same term left and right:
4 = 3

I give these problems for refreshing my brain in the weekends after a long week of monotonous office job as well as to know many things from you also... Exchange of ideas what I mean.

I'm currently taking Geometry in 8th grade. (I skipped PreAlgebra)

Since the beginning of school, I took 4 tests so far.

When I test with the other subjects (History, English, and Science) I do really well, but math is the only problem I have...

Yet every math test I took, I knew how to do the math, but I always end up making little mistakes (as my math teacher tells me). And everytime I get the test back, I would always go Grr! I knew how to do this!

Anyone have any tips for math test taking?

I'm always the 2nd-to-last/last person to finish... & I'm always nervous while taking the math tests and everyone in my class is very competitive (so that doesn't help). Plus everyone exspects me to be SUPER intelligent and I don't want to disappoint anyone, but I recently have (because of my math grade). This was the first time I had ever disappointed my parents..

This has been troubling me for 2 weeks already :( and I can't stop worrying if I'm going to fail the next test too

While reading an article on the adsorbtion and desorbtion of Pu in clay based sediments, the article mentioned that Pu-241 demonstrated an alpha decay. The article then discounted the presence of Am-241 parented by Pu-241, suggesting a beta-minus decay.
A quick internet search found reference to both alpha and beta-minus decays, but not suggesting both.
So which is it?

(physics) The time required for half of the nuclei in a sample of a specific isotope to undergo radioactive decay.
(chemistry) In a chemical reaction, the time required for the concentration of a reactant to fall from a chosen value to half that value.
(medicine) The time it takes for a substance (drug, radioactive nuclide, or other) to lose half of its pharmacologic, physiologic, or radiologic activity. Year introduced in w:MeSH: 1974(1971)
(culture) The time it takes for an idea or a fashion to lose half of its influential power.
