Probably something Jim Henson saw in a drug induced hallucination. The folks who made the muppets were self professed 'dirty hippies' after all.

They were more than a little rough around the edges. I hope there's some footage somewhere that show the crew cutting up between takes. I'm sure that material is just as hillarious, though doubtlessly a bit more 'blue' than the usual sesame street stuff.

I understand that Frank Oz had master Yoda flirting with Natalie Portman on the set of Ep. II.
