Evaluate: -18 – 92 : 33

Is the teacher asking for a definition or a solution?
if it is a solution, I don't get what they want.

A boat is traveling upstream at 14mph with respect to the river that is flowing at 6mph (with respect to the ground). A man runs directly across the boat, from one side to the other at 6mph (with respect to the boat).
The speed of the man with respect to the ground is:
a 10mph
b 14 mph
c 18.5 mph
d 21 mph
e 26 mph

I have no clue how to work this, my book gives me only problems with parts moving in the same direction. Also, I assume the man is running from side to side and not from the front to the back of the boat? And if he is, I don't think his running is of influence since it's perpendicular to the movementof the boat and river. If he is running from front to back (or back to front) shouldnt the problem state that?

I got a reflecting telescope in apparently good shape @ a garage sale

What are you supposed to see? I look through the secondary mirror to the primary mirror in the bottom of the tube. Is the entire mirror supposed to be in my view with the cross bearing the secondary mirror smack in the center or should the view be centered on one quadrent of the mirror

The telescope is currently more like the latter ith only 30% or so of the primary mirror visible

I have found some web sites about collimating the morrors but none of them make clear what the desired final result is

OK, please stop telling me I am submitting low level algebra, but this is why I am here. To learn, and it's hard when people treat you badly online.
commutative and associative properties of multiplication and exponential notation to simplify this product. y(y*5)(wy). Use y=2 and w = 5 to check your answer.

My Answer:
2 (2*5) (10)
(10) (10) = 100
2 * 100 = 200

Teacher: Good, you did ONE HALF of the solution check. However, you did not SIMPLIFY at all, which was what was asked for.

(b) How many of the 6 computers do you expect to be bad at the time of testing?
(c) Suppsoe there are 50 computers in the lab and the probability that a computer is virus free is 4%. Using 2 methods, calculate the probability of 6 students using the lab and escaping the virus plague. That is, what is the probability of exactly 6 diskettes remaining virus free if all 50 PC's were used (by students with diskettes) in a lab tutorial?

Ok, here's the problem...

"If 50 grams of hot water at 80degrees celsius is poured into a cavity in a very large block of ice at 0 degrees celsius, what will be the final temperature of the water in the cavity? How much ice must melt in order to cool the hot water down to this temperature?"

How do I go about finding this answer? Am I supposed to use Q = mcDT?
