Flagella consist of a grouping of filaments that move as a single unit. They are built differently depending on what organism they are a part of. Flagellum in bacteria grow by adding subunits to the top of the filaments. But archaeal flagella grow by adding subunits to the base. Eukaryotic flagellum (animal cilia) are made from nine pairs of microtubule doublets surrounding two microtubules. The basal body (an organizing center controls the growth of the cilia. I cant really get any more indepth with out using some complex terminlolgy sorry.
