How does one compute going from Volts, Watts and Amps to Calories? Is there a way to say that I used 500 calories (kcal) on my treadmill at the health club and if I could have applied it magically, it would have run two loads of laundry through my washer/dryer (or something similar)?

for those of you who are into polar form, if you have
r = 1-sin(theta) and r=sin(theta)
and you need to find the area of the region BETWEEN inner loops of them, how do you set up the equation?

the formula for area bounded between functions is:
the integral from alpha to beta of 1/2 *[(r2)^2-(r1)^2]d(theta)

alpha and beta would be pi/6 and 5pi/6 in this case, i think

which one is supposed to be used as the farther one(r2) and which one as the closer one(r1) since we have to find the are BETWEEN the two...??

That there is life on other planets? Or do you believe in Aliens? Why do you think there's so many other planets? For there to be this huge galaxy out there and to only believe we can only live on just one planet is crazy. Do you think there is anything else beyond our galaxy like another time dimension? Please be serious...

The south pole is the coldest place on earth because all the cold air sinks to the bottom of the world. But the north pole should be the hotest place as all the hot air should rise to the top of the world.

Or have the many contributors who have patiently and endlessly explained to them why it is a hoax and how the solar system actually works been completely wasting their time?

The best source of energy I know is the Sun. Desert is the greatest place to build sun energy power plants. But I have in mind quite modificated idea. It would be smaller power plant with factory of glass, salt into drinking water distiller, mill for example to prepar sand for glass production. Options selectiveable. The main idea is to use HUGE GLASS LENS (or few positioned to work like one) to concentrate suns rays to recive high temperature and use it to produce energy from Sun or/and glass from sand. Mechanical energy by worming water like in steam engine and electrical by adding dynamo. All device should be in close room like in atomic power plant. Energy is the basic economy need, salty sea water can be changed into drinking water ( more precious than gold for me), sand can be melt into bulding material I like because of many reasons. I believe the criteria used to determine whether a celestial body is a planet is overly complex and should be simplified. We're pulling human factors into determination. Size, mass, SHAPE, and composition should NOT be factored into the determination. Alien worlds must be given alien consideration - not a dogmatic narrow view based on human experiences.

Simply put, a planet should have two things:

1. A planet should maintains an orbit within a system. Otherwise it can be classified as an asteriod or comet.

2. A planet can be a statellite to zero or more stars. It cannot be a satellite to another planet.

What is your opinion? What criteria should be used to determine a planet?
