do you think the people in mississippi, louisiana,and new orleans who survived were smart to stay at home on hurricane katrina? or do you think they should've evacuated just in case?

I would have ran. Even if it's been their home since the day that they were born and they have lived down there for 20, 30, 40 or whatever years. I don't think New Orleans is ever going to be the same. The poor people...that entire city looked like a third world country. That shouldn't be happening here in the the United States!

The way I heard it, those who stayed were mostly those who had no way of getting out. Not everyone owns a car, not everyone can afford bus tickets for the whole family. Surely if it's known that a major category 5 hurricane is on the way then the state should play a greater role in getting people to safety!
Of course, if they didn't leave because they didn't want to then that's their choice. I wouldn't have stayed myself if I had any choice about it!

I live in south Mississippi and we EVACUATED! A STRONG category 5 storm was coming for us...gone gone gone! :) Evacuating is a precaution that should be exercised a little more by people!!

If a Hurricane Warning is issued, evacuation is highly recommended.

They should have evacuated, but if they had no means to get out, they may have felt the need to stay. Maybe they felt safer at home.

If they survived then I guess it doesn't really matter. But, with a storm of that magnitude they probably should have been smart and evacuated.

Stay if they couldn't get their most valuable stuff ou but that rarely happens with a hurricane so they should've gone.

It has nothing to do with being smart, they just did not know any better, most were old and had no clue what to do...yes, they should have....but we all know hindsight is 20/20
