Calculate the pH of a 0.5M solution of HCl?

Someone please tell me how this is done.

The [H+] of a .5M solution of HCl is about .5 because HCl is a strong acid.

pH is defined as -log of the concentration, so put .5 into your calculator, hit the log key, then hit the +/- key.

I get about .3; what do you get?
