That there is life on other planets? Or do you believe in Aliens? Why do you think there's so many other planets? For there to be this huge galaxy out there and to only believe we can only live on just one planet is crazy. Do you think there is anything else beyond our galaxy like another time dimension? Please be serious...

Good question Angekpink. Have you heard of an astronomer called Giordano Bruno? In the late 15th Century he suggested that there must be planets around other stars and that some of them must house extra-terrestrial life. It was just obvious, logical to him, as it is to you,

But the Roman Catholic Church regarded those thoughts as heresies, demanded he retract them, and when he refused, they burned him at the stake, in 1600, Nice civilised way to conduct a stimulating debate on a scientific hypothesis, isn't it?

It is only in the last 12 years that we have proved Bruno right on the first score and started to find extra-solar planets, 205 of them to date, There are 150 stars with one planet and 20 with 2 or more. 55 Cancri and Mu Ares both have 4. A number of these stars have now been found to have Asteroid Belts, too,

The nearest stars with a planet are Epsilon Eridani 10.5 lights years away (the 13th nearest neighbour to us) and Gliese 876, which has three planets, one of them about 5 times the mass of the earth, which is about 15 light years away and our 54th nearest neighbour in space.

One or more planets are also suspected to be orbiting around Barnard's Star, which at 5.96 light years away is our 4th nearest neighbour (and by 11000 AD will be our nearest neighbour at a mere 3.8 light years away,)

Apart from those on our galactic doorstep we also know of one orbiting a red dward that is some 21,000 light years away from us, and it is the smallest mass of all the known exo-olanets found to date, too.

So the prospects of finding extra-terrestrial life are looking up, especially as we have found planets around red dwarf stars, and 85% of the stars in the galaxy are red dwarfs.

I think its possible but very unlikely, the conditions required for a life bearing planet are pretty stringent.

I also believe that if intelligent life does exist out there, than there is a good chance they already know about us. If a alien civilization has created a self replicating machine, they could have the entire Milky Way Galaxy mapped in 500,000 years.

We are aleady here. Over the centuries, your planet was a curious place to visit once or twice and was not considered very interesting . Sure, your wars showed us how undeveloped you are as a species and your infantile,(in cosmic terms) dependence on god concepts does not bode well for you. We are now showing an interest in you because it is not often that we get to observe a species commit suicide. You are so close to maturing as a sentient species and it will be a shame to see you kill yourselves. There are just not enough of you becoming rational enough to force the issue. You let the least among you determine your fate, so be it.

i do believe in alien life forms, if you have any logical sense it's hard not to. In a universe that is expanding to this day at tremendous speeds, leaving new planets and solar systems behind in the trillions and beyond, it's extremely improbable that there isn't at leastg one planet that has some living things on it. we're not alone

There is life on planets far removed from this solar system. When we have evolved enough to understand and communicate as equals the technology will become available to make this happen.

Look back a thousand years and check technology advances

you know, statistially, there ought to be life out there, even recognizable life assuming there are several million planets just like our in solar systems just like ours. but, though scientists are getting a better look at planets around other stars, they are finding surprisingly few solar systems like ours. and are finding an inordinate amount of binary systems. so, though it seems unlikely we would be alone in the vastness. its becoming hard to see where any neighbors might live.

but yeah, i'm sure there is some kinda life out there. higher dimensions and all that, too.

not sure about another time dimension...that's too much to think about, but yes i do believe there must be some sort of life somewhere out there....the universe is so large, i can't believe that we are the only living things that exist in the universe

If there's a God, there is life on other planets. Otherwise, why would there be an infinite number of planets with nothing living there?
