Baby Names - October 2007

[Selected]: All categories Pregnancy & Parenting Baby Names

I'm having twins and I need two girls names. I've looked on all sorts of sites and looked at books, but I can't find any girls names that really excite me.

I kind of like the names Gwen, Lindsay, Sara, and I like most weather names, but I can't decide on one that I don't find something I like better. I want them to have very beautiful names because my name is Claudia, and I have never liked my name. It's even worse considering I was born in '83 so I grew up with people like Ashley, Brittany, Heather, and Tiffany.

I need some help on some absolutely beautiful names. oh and you don't have to use the names I've provided. The names and the fact I like weather/ nature names were just guidlines

My name is Emelin, husbands is Ivan, 8 year old boy, Evan, 6 year old twin girls, Isabel and Ingrid, 3 year old girl, Emily. It must start with E or I because we have a little tradition going obviously. I've just run out of names there aren't alot of girls names that start with E or I. What do you suggest? Thanks in advance!!

Well my husband and I just learned that we are going to be having a girl. We are very excited but have been arguing over names. We both agreed on Samantha for the middle name, seeing that babys godmother's name is samantha. We really need a first name that sort of flows with Samantha.

Its very helpful if you could think of some names, but not Elizabeth seeing that every other girl in our family is Elizabeth.

Hi there. I need some honest opinions please. I am 7 months pregnant, and we are expecting a baby boy. All my life I've loved the name Ichabod. Yes, I know about "ichabod crane" but that doesn't matter to me! That name sounds to cooool... But my husband won't hear of it! He says if I name my son Ichabod he won't sign the birth certificate!

So I put in a list of names he could choose from. I am trying to be reasonable. I think Wilbur is nice, or Orville (yes, in honor of flight) or maybe Ned or Beauford. Also Humphrey or Petunius.

Well, don't you think he's being unreasonable? He just REFUSES to choose any of these! He wants some awful generic name like Michael or Brandon. UGH!

Can you please talk some sense to him?? He'll be reading the replies tonight. Thanks!

We are having a baby girl in about 2 and a half months. I like names that are unique and meaningful, or names that paint pretty mental pictures. My favorites are: Starlee Mae, Skylee, Raina Grace.
He likes more common/traditional names. His favorites are Sarah Jane, Erin, Sam. We both have very different tastes.
Can anyone think of some first names that might be a nice combination of the two styles? For the middle name we like simple one syllable names like Lyn, Mae, Ann, Grace, Jane, etc. But we can't come up with a first name we both like. I would be more open to common or traditional names if they have a nice meaning behind them. But I hate overused names like Stephanie, Jessica, Jennifer, Megan, etc. Thanks for your help!

Do you find it normal if your children have sooo similar names?
I know a mother whose twin-daughters (now age 7) are named Mary Ann and Marian.Another couple I know are the sisters (3 years apart) Elaine and Alayna.and my schoolmate Hailey has a sister named Kayleigh. Why don't you stop naming yur children crazy?

Is this an American thing?
Do all Americans do this middle name thing?
In my country you can give a child a middle name, but maybe half the people give their baby only one name.

So what's with the middle name? Is it traditional or cultural or something?
Does everybody do it?
Are there any conventions?

OK... Long story shot we've been thinking of naming our baby boy ' Jayden ' and since he's due within a month and a half we need to make the decission now. Well at least thats what I say. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the name Jayden. I think its a really nice and a cute name for a boy. Except the father thinks its too 'girly'. Do you guys think that too ? I think its adorable. So he said fine, if we're naming him that, his middle name will be Nicholas (he has a reason for that name, he wants to 'honor' his brother by giving his son the same name, and I have no problem with that) and he'll just call him Nick (at home & stuff) ! Is this a good idea? I dunno cause if he's just gonna dumb the name Jayden and call him Nick then why the heck do we call should we call him that !?

Its confusing I know, but I need opinions. We're fighting over names right now so... lol ! Thanks for your help.

My fiancee's brother died of lukemia years ago. We want to name our first son after him. In this situation, is "Junior" or "II" supposed to be used, or would he just have his name and no suffix?
