We are having a baby girl in about 2 and a half months. I like names that are unique and meaningful, or names that paint pretty mental pictures. My favorites are: Starlee Mae, Skylee, Raina Grace.
He likes more common/traditional names. His favorites are Sarah Jane, Erin, Sam. We both have very different tastes.
Can anyone think of some first names that might be a nice combination of the two styles? For the middle name we like simple one syllable names like Lyn, Mae, Ann, Grace, Jane, etc. But we can't come up with a first name we both like. I would be more open to common or traditional names if they have a nice meaning behind them. But I hate overused names like Stephanie, Jessica, Jennifer, Megan, etc. Thanks for your help!

There are so many different names out there to choose from. Naming is so fun! We went with no so traditional (Jennifer, Jessica-etc) but not crazy out there (moonbeam). You could go with an older name.....that has been reintroduced, and is quite pretty, and can be altered up to fit even the pickiest of people. I say that you had "Mae" in your likes of middle names........maybe you also like Rae, as in Camilla Rae. Alexandria Lyn (or Linn). Charlotte Mae. Arianna Grace? It has been some years since I have been baby book looking, so the meanings do indeed escape my memory, lol, the only ones I remember are the ones that I actually used. I hope this helped a little bit. Compromise is always good, best of luck!:)

Samantha Grace (I like that name - she has the option for the full name or nickname 'Sam')

Tricia Nicole

Cheryl Renee

**You said you like the one syllable names for the middle but my opinion is for the ones you listed:

&& Lyn
&& Mae
&& Ann
&& Jane

They all have that 'country-bumpkin' sound for example 'Sarah Jane Lyn' - I hear that already like I'm watching Little House on the Prairie. There are so many names out there. Go online and type in girls names. You will have 1,000's of options. And also you should both feel really good with what you pick. A name doesn't have to 'paint a pretty mental picture'. Your daughter should be a beautiful picture. You are not naming a piece of artwork. Think about how your daughter will feel as she gets older. Starlee Mae?

There are a lot of cool names and/or combinations - you have to be fair to everybody including your unborn daughter.

Good Luck!

A classic name that happens to have a similar sound or image as the type you prefer seems a good compromise. Especially a spunky, unexpected, but still very real and traditional, choice. For example ...

Scarlett
Estelle/Stella
Ruby
Clementine
Opal
Pearl - a unique simple, one-syllable middle name option, perhaps ;)
Gemma - per some unwarranted confusion I've seen here, this is (quite obviously LOL) said Jemma
Freya
Flora
Daisy
Poppy or Pippa - also great as nicknames for something more formal (which might appeal to both of you), such as Penelope and Philippa
Maisie - again, might appeal to your husband as a nickname for Margaret or Mary
Lola
Zoe
Amelie (ah-me-LEE)
Isla (IE-la)

Instead of picking a cute name that isn't going to age well, like Starlee, why not pick a more dignified sounding nature name? How about:

Acacia
Tansy
Ivy
Daphne
Gemma
Lily
Laurel
Rosalie

And some middle name ideas are:

Jade
May
Grace
Bea
Brooke
Blue
Claire
Clover
Fern

Hope these help!
