names go in fashion cycles

for a few years old english style names were popular - william, harry, jack, jake henry, alexander, george, edward, matthew, christopher

then we had a huge fashion for irish names - callum, liam and connor being very commonplace

there seem to be more scottish names in vogue - many camerons, allistairs, frasers, rory (with various spelling options)

sebastian is lovely and has certainly not been overused - a coincidence as i was only talking about this name to a friend yesterday

what about classic names like mark?

google popular names in UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand

we did this and found cameron was popular in oz and nz -
chose it for my son having never met another and two years ago he end up in a football team with two others! (he is now 13)

I love English baby names! My current favorite are Oliver, Alfie, Frederick, and Henry (they all just seem really English). Rowan is another very English name I love, as well as Harry, Declan, Jude, Colin, Bruno, Griffith, Percy, George, Earnest, Kent (Kenton), Brighton (Bright), Graham (Gray), Winston (Win), Edmund, James, etc.

Try this website for good British baby names: http://www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/naming/topnames2006/
I also love Irish, Welsh, and Scottish baby names but I'm not so sure which nationality they are of, so I didn't list any. The website includes the top ten lists for Wales, Scotland, and Ireland too though.

Oh, and if you live in the United States, I really wouldn't do Allister - Allison is so popular kids would constantly call him Alli, which is a very girly nickname here.

Liam is popular in my area. There are several boys in my son's class (he is 5) with that name. There are also Callum, Ian, Ciaran, and the usuals. Those aren't necessarily Brit or English, but I live in the middle of England at the moment and those are ones used around here. My oldest son is named Arlen. We have only heard of two others (aside from my grandfather that he is named for) with that name, and they are both in California.

I'm not certain if you simply want English names or suggestions for some others that happen to be popular in the UK. Here are a few of my favorites that happen to be fairly common in England and Wales:

Oliver
Henry/Harry
Callum
George
Harvey
Leo (Leopold is my preferred formal version)
Edward/Edmund (nickname Ned is adorable)
Oscar
Rhys
Findlay/Finley
Ellis
Morgan
Ewan
Jude
Declan
